ABC director Chris Oliver-Taylor muses about a foray into reality TV

When public broadcaster bosses aren’t repeatedly kicking themselves in the groin or fumbling their defense mechanisms in transparently unwinnable culture wars, it’s easy to forget that the ABC actually does a lot of (really good!) things that aren’t news.

Bluish, for a. ABC’s commissioning of the Ludo production house in Brisbane and Joe Brumm to make the children’s show – now by some statistics the most popular children’s program in the world – is legendary. Too bad about the clumsy hassle where the broadcaster doesn’t get a cent from licenses, toys or broadcasting rights. They go to the Poms. Truly a national shame.
