JCE supervisors, invigilators work under protest – Malawi Nyasa Times

Secondary School Teachers Union (SESTU) says the proctors and invigilators of this year’s Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) examinations are working under protest because the Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) has prepared “pointless” allowances for them.

Moyo: We work under protest.

Nyasa Times understands that SETU MANEB has written a number of recommendations based on the circular issued by the latter outlining reforms in the administration of national examinations this year.

A crucial observation SESTU made was on the commuting ratio policy, which it said was unrealistic because Malawi as a nation has different areas with different physical terrains.

General Secretary of SETU, Druwen Frank Moyo, told Nyasa Times that it was so disappointing to note that MANEB has assigned supervisors and invigilators, some of whom travel a distance of 20 to 40 kilometers, with unrealistic remuneration, a distance that should have been promised. residential status.

“MANEB has been achieving success in conducting national examinations of late. This is because they hired teachers with integrity and these teachers sacrificed. Central to every national examination administration is a teacher who is a supervisor or invigilator. Such teachers should be paid accordingly.

“MANEB should not choose to punish a teacher. MANEB must realize that every quality work comes at a cost and there is no shortcut to achieving quality work,” Moyo said.

MANEB has received the letter from SETU but has not responded until this chaos has occurred.

Moyo added that the said SETU does not want the upcoming Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations to be disrupted because of this current mess.

“MANEB has time to sort out this mess before the worst comes to the worst,” he said.

The Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) exams will run from July 2 to July 26, 2024, while the Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) exams currently underway will end on June 13, 2024.
