The refund checks, which were not delivered due to mailing address errors, are averaging $1,471, compared to $1,148 last year, the IRS said in a statement Wednesday.

The IRS said taxpayers can eliminate mail delays and errors by using direct deposit services.

Taxpayers who may be missing their refund checks can access the “Where’s My Refund” section of the IRS website or call 1-800-829-1954.
