Woman charged with driving under the influence after fatal crash near Wolfville

A Berwick woman is dead and a driver is facing charges for alleged drug abuse following a crash on Wednesday.

The RCMP say the crash happened on Ridge Rd. in Wolfville Ridge at approximately 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

“The investigation reveals that a Hyundai Santa Fe failed to negotiate a curve, left the roadway, drove through the ditch and struck a woman and a Toyota Corolla that were off the roadway,” according to a news release from the Mounties. “The woman was standing by the Corolla.”

Police say the 87-year-old Berwick woman was killed at the scene, while a 92-year-old man in the Corolla suffered minor injuries.

A child in Sante Fe was taken to the hospital for observation, police said.

The 37-year-old woman driving the Sante Fe was taken to the RCMP detachment in New Minas, where she reportedly failed a drug test.

The Berwick woman is charged with driving under the influence causing death and is expected in a Kentville courtroom on Thursday.
