The bodies of men and women have been recovered from the water at Angel Falls in Madera County, officials say

MADERA COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The bodies of a man and a woman have been recovered from the water following search and rescue efforts at Angel Falls in Madera County.

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office says they received a “panic” call to 911 just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday about a woman in the water.

While the sheriff’s office responded to the scene, deputies spotted the woman’s body. They also found a man’s belongings nearby.

The bodies of both victims have since been recovered and are being flown from the area by California Highway Patrol helicopter to meet with staff from the coroner’s office.

It is not known how they ended up in the water.

Officers also responded to a second search and rescue call near Lewis Creek, near Angel Falls.

During that rescue, one woman had to be carried from the water after suffering a broken leg.
