Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office: Point Fire evacuations lifted

The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has lifted all evacuations related to the four-day-old Point Fire and announced Wednesday at 5 p.m. that residents ordered to evacuate the area east and south of Lake Sonoma, where the wildfire started leave, can go home.

Residents returning home were advised to exercise caution, bearing in mind that the fire may have caused damage to the surrounding area or that properties not destroyed by the flames could be damaged by smoke or waterlogged by water that is used to extinguish the flames.

Some structures may also have holes cut in the walls or roofs by firefighters searching for heat and fire.

Residents should also beware of soot and dirty water that can cause illness. Food and beverages exposed to flame, smoke, soot or water should not be consumed.
