Crews battle vegetation fire near Bacara Resort in West Goleta | Local news

Firefighters battled a vegetation fire near Haskell’s Beach and the Ritz-Carlton Bacara Resort in western Goleta on Wednesday afternoon.

Santa Barbara County firefighters were dispatched to the fire, which was burning between Hollister Avenue and the shoreline — east of the Bacara and west of the Sandpiper Golf Course and the idled Ellwood oil processing plant — shortly before 4 p.m.

According to firefighter Mike Gray, the initial size of the fire had blackened about half an acre, with the flames slowly spreading.

The fire was burning in light brush and spreading to eucalyptus trees, Gray said, adding that winds were minimal.

Water-dropping helicopters assisted crews battling the flames on the ground.

Smoke from the fire spread across much of west Goleta.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
