Sporting Kansas City will look to use the comforts of home to their advantage again this week when the team hosts Western Conference leader Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night at Children’s Mercy Park. Sporting posted a six-match winless home run in MLS action in their most recent outing at Children’s Mercy Park – a 2-1 victory over Seattle on June 8 – before falling 4-2 on the road to the LA Galaxy last Saturday.

Wednesday’s game is the second and final regular season meeting between Sporting and RSL this season, having already faced off on May 4, 2024 at America First Field in Sandy, Utah. The two sides fought an exciting battle that evening, with RSL narrowly taking the lead. it became 1-0 thanks to a goal in the 81st minute from top scorer Chicho Arango.

The most recent meeting at Children’s Mercy Park between Sporting and Real Salt Lake took place on July 12, 2023 – also a midweek match. Sporting took a two-goal lead at half-time after goals from Daniel Salloi and Johnny Russell, but a series of inspired half-time substitutions from RSL turned the match on its head, with Arango and Anderson Julio leveling in the second half and managed to save a 2. -2 draw for the visitors.

Sporting follows the all-time streak with RSL 13-17-9, while Sporting have won just five of their last 23 meetings with the Utes. Sporting has always had a 7-5-6 home record against Real Salt Lake, but the team has won just once at Children’s Mercy Park since early 2018: a 1-0 victory on March 26, 2022.
