Abandoned car left outside Vernon 7-Eleven after ‘substantial impact’ between truck and car, witnesses say – Vernon News

Everyone flees the scene of the accident

Eyewitnesses say a driver was injured and fled the scene of a crash at Middleton Way and Kosmina Road on Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday around 4:20 p.m., emergency services were called to a car accident. On scene at the 7-Eleven, an empty car was stopped halfway through the entrance to a parking lot, with the doors open, the driver’s side window shattered and the airbags inflated.

“It had a significant impact,” said an eyewitness, who waited at the scene to give police a statement. “He pushed the car quite far.”

The witness told Castanet that a truck was turning right from the 7-Eleven onto Kosmina Road when they collided with a car turning left on the other side of the road, crashing into each other.

The collision reportedly pushed a car’s driver’s side door inward and destroyed the side mirror. On the other side of the car, the passenger door was open as the witness said the driver fled the vehicle.

But the fleeing man “couldn’t have come far from here,” the witness said. He looked ‘bad’ after leaving the crash, with the driver’s side door of the car almost collapsing.

Another witness, who was also waiting to give police a statement, told Castanet that they were chasing the fleeing truck. The witness wanted to take a photo of the license plate, but couldn’t get close enough.

“He shot it,” she said. ‘He left.’

Castanet has contacted Vernon RCMP for more information.
