Repurpose a Chip-and-Dip bowl from Dollar Tree into a Hummingbird attraction

For this DIY water feature for your backyard, you’ll need a chip-and-dip container, a flower pot (a bucket works fine), a soldering iron, scissors, rubber tubing, and a solar pump kit. Start by making a hole in the center of the chip and dip bowl with your soldering iron. But to make this a piece of cake, draw a small circle where you want to cut, adjusting the size to the diameter of the rubber hose. Done with the center hole, carefully burn some additional holes around the outer dipping section. Keep them close to the center of the bowl, though, because you want the water to fall back into the base (flower pot or bucket) and not splash all over the ground.

The next step is to connect the rubber hose to the submersible pump. In your solar pump kit you will find a device (a kind of small funnel with a lid) designed to connect the rubber hose. Now, here’s a tip: make the holes in the funnel lid a little bigger. After all, you don’t want a water fountain on steroids, but a cold stream. Once done, slide the funnel piece securely through the center hole of the bowl and connect the narrower end to the rubber tube under the bowl. The last bit is pretty much plug-and-play; Just place all the parts you assembled, including dropping the solar pump into your water-filled base, and let the sun do its magic. And there you have your DIY hummingbird bath.
