Steward postpones sale and auction deadlines for some of its hospitals

Steward Health has missed deadlines for the sale and auction of hospitals in Arizona and Massachusetts, and St.
Joseph Medical Center in Texas.

According to court documents, the bid deadlines were originally set for June 24 for the three hospitals and August 12 for the second round. The auctions would have taken place on June 27 and August 14 respectively.

According to the document, the deadlines for the second round will not be changed now.

This comes after a complaint from the US Department of Justice in which Steward opposed the original timetable for bids and sales. The Department of Justice has previously stated that it is in the early stages of reviewing the proposed sale and may require extensive production of documents and data before determining whether or not to object to the purchase.

This proposal dates back to March 2024, when Steward Health received an offer to acquire its physician network, Steward Medical Group, in multiple states, including Ohio and Pennsylvania, by Optum.

If the proposed sale goes through, all doctors currently working at Steward will soon be able to work for Optum, but after two months no final agreement has yet been reached.

Steward owns three hospitals in the Valley, including Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Hillside Rehabilitation Hospital and Sharon Regional Medical Center.
