Russell Crowe is an actor, plays an actor and plays a priest in the supernatural chiller ‘The Exorcism’ – WSVN 7News | Miami News, Weather, Sports

Variety is the spice of life, and that’s why we’re switching things up from comedy to horror. Dun dun dun! And not just any kind of horror – the demonic kind. Grab some sage and cleanse your crystals, because Deco is getting spooky with the cast of ‘The Exorcism.’

Russell Crowe (as Anthony Miller): “Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It’s a job that comes to me after someone else’s tragedy.”

Russell Crowe plays two very different types of ‘fathers’ in the new supernatural horror film ‘The Exorcism’.

Ryan Simpkins (as Lee Miller): “Wow.”

Russell Crowe (as Anthony Miller): “Not bad, eh?”

On the one hand, he plays an actor who plays a priest in a movie. Speaking of meta.

But he’s also a father to Ryan Simpkins’ character, Lee.

Ryan Simpkins: “We’ve known each other for a long time, so we feel really comfortable. We weren’t afraid to work together and be honest with each other.”

Russell and Ryan have been friends for years, but have never worked on a film together… and that’s not the only thing they have in common.

Ryan Simpkins: “We’re also both Aries, so we’re also both very strong-willed and very passionate, which I think comes across because both characters kind of spark a passion in each other.”

Ryan Simpkins (as Lee Miller): “He’s off his meds. He is erratic. Father, what should I do?”

Speaking of father figures, David Hyde Pierce plays a real-life priest in the film. He tells Deco that his favorite part was getting the prosthetics they used to make him look older.

David Hyde Pierce: “The opportunity to do this with real professionals, and see how they did it and how they aged and put on the stuff and stretched it and all that, that was exciting for me.”

He even told us that as a child he practiced applying horror makeup on himself.

David Hyde Pierce: “I’d like to order makeup supplies from New York City and become a wolf man, and all that nose putty and stuff.”

Ryan Simpkins (as Lee Miller): “So what about the sage?”

Chloe Bailey (as Blake Holloway): “Have you forgotten what kind of movie we’re making?”

Horror movies may be fun to watch, but when you’re making them, you can’t be too careful with bad juju. However, Ryan has that covered.

Ryan Simpkins: “I wouldn’t call myself superstitious, but I definitely believe in all those things. I really love crystals, just in general, even if it’s just the idea of it, I think it’s an energy that you put out into the world and hopefully it comes back, you know what I mean?

David Hyde Pierce (as Father Conor): “If it happens, run.”

‘The Exorcism’ will hit the theaters from Friday.
