“We were informed at 11.15am of the disappearance of a 67-year-old Briton and sent a helicopter to the island to assist in the search launched by local police,” a fire brigade press officer told AFP.

Greek daily Kathimerini quoted Bailey as saying that Mosley “took a walk on the beach of Agios Nikolaos towards Pedi, and has been missing ever since”.

Symi’s mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas told the newspaper that the island is baking in “unbearable heat” and noted that the area where Mosley was last reported was “difficult because it is very rocky.”
