A Netflix Cheat Sheet Just For Parents

Here are a few tips, tricks and hacks to make your viewing experience better as a parent.

Customize their watch experience.

To choose the types of TV shows and movies your kids can watch, you can create a Netflix Kids profile with titles just for kids leveraging parental controls.

Create a profile with a specific maturity rating. To manage the types of TV shows and movies that people in your household can watch, you can create individual profiles with customized maturity ratings.

Choose maturity ratings or block shows. When you set a maturity rating for a profile, that profile will see only TV shows and movies that fit that rating. You can also block specific TV shows and movies from individual profiles.

Lock your profile or other profiles on your account. If you want to restrict access to a specific profile on your account, you can protect it with a Profile Lock PIN.

Turn autoplay on or off. Netflix has two autoplay features that you can turn on or off for each profile on an account. Changes to autoplay settings take effect across all devices.

Access viewing history for a profile. You can see the TV shows and movies that have been watched on each profile on your account.

Make separate profiles for you and your kids.

With separate profiles, you don’t have to worry about all those kids’ movies clogging up your Continue Watching row or your recommendations. And when your kid uses their own separate profile, you can set parental controls to make sure they don’t get recommended something too mature.

Grab and go and bring their favorite show with you.

Use the Download feature and keep their favorite show or movie at-the-ready before heading to a new destination with a not so great internet connection, even if it’s just the backyard, or while away on vacation. To download, open the Netflix app on any phone, tablet or computer and select a TV show or movie. From the description page, tap Downloads and voila! Note, not all titles are available for download.

Personalize their profile avatars.

Help your kids change their profile icon to some of the most beloved characters from Netflix shows and movies like the adorable animals from Our Planet, the crew from Stranger Things, heroes from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and more. You can change the icons by going to your account settings and choosing “Manage profiles.” After you select a profile, you can edit it and change the avatar.

With our easy-to-use parental controls like creating a Kids profile for your child that is filled with age-appropriate content, along with pin protection and the kids activity recap help caregivers make the right decisions for their families.
